Schuff Steel Management Company (SSMC), is looking to add an experienced Structural Steel Estimator to its Estimating Team.  If you are a detailed, meticulous and organized individual who has the determination to meet deadlines, we want to talk to you.  We are looking for an achievement driven professional with the ability to visualize elaborate projects and anticipate construction steps in building projects.  This position collaborates with Schuff Steel professionals, purchasing agents, architects & engineers to provide a cost effective estimating solution that fosters the purchase of Schuff Steel design, fabrication, and erection services.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepare pricing estimates on new projects and estimate prices on change orders on existing contracts.
  • Read and understand job bid instructions, detailed specifications, prepare a "take off" of materials included in the job, estimate all necessary labor, materials, buyout items, equipment costs (including crane costs) to prepare a through price estimate.
  • Exercise good judgment and experience in working with purchasing, steel erection labor, equipment and transportation costs to arrive at full cost estimate with appropriate profit margins to achieve Company's goals.
  • Work directly with Sales and Preconstruction Teams to understand size and scope of projects along with timelines and applicable project deadlines.


  • A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience estimating structural steel construction projects.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent with structural drawing or drafting coursework.
  • Good written and oral communication skills required
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specs, contracts, proposals and estimates required
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software preferred
  • Knowledge of estimating software packages
  • Knowledge of terminology customarily used in construction

Work Environment

Work is generally performed in a climate controlled office area.  Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time throughout an 8-10 hour day.
